LOVE Harrod's, even though I could only afford a card and a box of cupcake wrappers (really COOL cupcake wrappers with the "Union Jack", and toothpicks with Big Ben, and British telephone booths on the top!).
We walked through the various departments, and spent a bit of time in the Egyptian Hall (with a memorial to Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed, whose family owns Harrods)...
...then headed to the travel center to board the bus for Windsor Castle.
After a 45 minute ride through the city, then the area near Heathrow (since the castle is, apparently, in the flight path...go figure!), we arrived at Windsor. We only had TWO HOURS to tour the galleries, chapel, and apartments...and photos weren't allowed in most places.
We DID manage to get a few photos of the grounds, and enjoyed touring the State Apartments, St. George's Chapel (where we saw the final resting places of the Queen Mum, Princess Margaret, and King Henry VIII), a photo exhibit commemorating Queen Elizabeth's reign as queen, and Queen Mary's Dollhouse.
HONESTLY...don't you think this poor guy is thinking...I HATE TOURISTS!!??
After a lovely bus ride back into London (DESPITE it being rush hour!), we had dinner at the Stanhope Arms Tavern. We TOTALLY didn't get how the whole "pub" thing worked, but, after wandering around looking clueless for a few minutes, two girls from California invited us to share their table with them. Had they not, we'd probably STILL be there trying to find a place to sit...
Duane had the fish and chips ("BEST in London", the sign out front said!). I had the beef and ale pie and a Kopparberg Pear Cider...YUM!!!!!
We then headed back to the hotel, and called it a night!!!!
To be continued...
