Even though it wasn't a particularly bad winter in Minnesota, it was AWESOME to enjoy spring in England. They are a few weeks ahead of us in the "blooming and budding" department, so it was DELIGHTFUL to see flowering trees, and plants!
On our way out of the park, we saw a flock of "feral chickens"...SCARY!!!!
After Kew Gardens, we headed back to central London on the tube. We decided to have "tea" at our hotel. There's a debate in our household as to whether it's "high tea"...or just "tea". Apparently, our waiter at the hotel wasn't sure either.
We THOUGHT we ordered the version in which you get a three-tiered serving tray of goodies, but it took THREE chats with another server and a REALLLLLLY long wait to get it straightened out. Whatever the case, we DID eventually get the scones, finger sandwiches, and pastries that we THOUGHT we'd originally ordered (IMAGINE our disappointment when the server initially just brought...tea...!)...
After tea, we headed to Madame Tussaud's! FORTUNATELY, we purchased our tickets the day before (in combination with the London Eye tickets). We were able to go through the "express lane", and were told at the door that it saved us an HOUR of standing in line to get inside...YAY!!!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Madame Tussaud's! Duane TOTALLY doesn't get it. It's SUCH a tourist trap, and kitchy, and that's EXACTLY why I love it! I think it's a "hoot and a half" to have my photo taken with all the "celebrities"!!!!
It was, however, a little SAD to realize that while everyone else was thronging around Robert Pattinson and Justin Bieber, I was making a "beeline" for Dame Judi Dench, and Helen Mirren...I guess I really AM getting old!!!
NO idea who this guy was...but he was HOT!!!!!!
After the "halls of fame", we went to the 4D "Avengers" movie (complete with puffs of air, mist (for sneezing, splashing, etc., pokes from the back of the seat, etc.)...
...then headed to Picadilly Circus to try (UNSUCCESSFULLY) to get last minute tickets to see "Phantom of the Opera" (Duane has never seen it!).
Since we were close, we decided to take the tube to King's Cross Station to see Harry Potter's platform 9 3/4 ...AGAIN....really touristy...but an AWESOME photo op!!!!
King's Cross Station was TOTALLY cool!!!
After King's Cross Station, we walked around the neighborhood for a little while, and discovered St. Pancras station...across the street! Such a beautiful station, and, apparently, a disembarkation spot for people attending the Olympics this summer!
There was an incredibly cool statue that had something to do with sending a guy off to war...
...and a grocery store that carried my NEW favorite product...wine already poured into a sealed wine glass!!!
After another EVENTFUL day, we headed back to the Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes, and went to bed!
To be continued...
