Note:  This is a series of journal entries from my two years living in Himeji, Japan (1988-1990).  I'm archiving them electronically through my blog.  Last names have been deleted and replaced with first initial only.  For details on this series of blog entries, see this post.

I'm going to write this entry looking over my shoulder, because I swear to God there's a cobra outside my window...okay maybe it's not a cobra, but its at least 25 ft. long...okay, maybe 2 feet, but I just know it's poisonous.  I called Karl, and he said it's poisonous if it's head is triangular.  I'm not getting close enough to find out!  From a distance it certainly looks triangular.

Today has basically been uneventful (till now).  I cleaned, read, did laundry, dishes, etc.  I also played social director for caravan in regards to the day at Central Park on Saturday, and the party after.  I was also Mr. Phone Call today.  The phone has run a lot today.  I got 2 prank calls that I think are from the Kazuko I./Mari K. crowd.

I ran downtown after wrestling with myself whether to go or not, at about 6, to take in some negatives of Brenda's for reprints.

I wrote a couple of letters.  Otherwise it's been a nice, slow, uneventful day.  It poured this afternoon, so I stood on my back patio and held all of my plants over the rail for a nice misting.  Pretty stupid look if anyone saw me!

I went in to school around 12, after a frustrating morning at the camera shop, and not having my stuff ready when they said they would.

Kidsland had a barbeque for caravan & me.  It was really fun.  Kim made a tape to send back to her choir, complaining that they hadn't written.  It was a riot.

I BELIEVE this was "Snarky Sound of Music"...DOE A DEEEEER...

After the bbq we all went shopping in Himeji and ate at McDonalds.  We finished the adventure with a stop at Baskin Robbins.  I had caramel ribbon- YUM!!!

Well, I'm going to try and "get back on the stick" as we say in America.  Kim called at 9:30, and said she and Sachiko were at Kyoguchi Station.  I gave them directions, and woke David up to get ready.  While he ran to the shower, I threw stuff in various closets, and we were actually ready when they got here.  I fixed tacos for lunch, and we had a nice time talking.

We left at 12 & went shopping for a little while, then met a rather large group of 14 (it started out to be 5) at the castle gate.  It was fun, though.  We walked all over the castle and grounds, saw many gaijin and had a great time.

After the castle we went to the historical museum, which was really interesting.  I must go back!

After the history museum, we went back to Miyuki Dori, in a somewhat smaller group of 8, and shopped some more.

David & I got home around 7, and I fixed pizza for dinner.  I gave him the bean bags I bought at the tourist shop, and my Himeji Castle door hanging as gifts. (I felt bad because other hosts were giving yukatas, Japanese dolls, etc.).

I did his laundry, taped his Bill Cosby tape and his Billy Joel tape, and we talked for a little while.

It is now July 8th, and I don't really remember Monday.  I went shopping with the caravan on Miyuki Dori.  Mrs. S. went with us and we ran into Jenny U.

She came with us shopping and ate lunch with us at Kentucky Friend Chicken.  I tried green tea ice cream at 31 afterwards...interesting.  We rode the train to school and they met their host families.

Tuesday we went to school.  David took attendance in my E.C. I class.  He did a pretty good job!  Caravan met in my office at 10:30.  David came to part of my E.C. II class, and then we picked everyone up for lunch in the cafeteria.  In the afternoon only Taeko M. showed up for class, so I cancelled, and waited around school till 5:30 when caravan came back from meeting the mayor to go home.

At 7:10 we met Michiyo & her mom & went to Chinatsu's for a surprise party for Sarah's birthday next week.  We had sukiyaki and Chinatsu's father bought a cake.  We did hanabe, and laughed a lot!

We rode home with Chinatsu's mom & arrived at 10:50.  We hurriedly packed and went to bed.
